Illustrator reimagines Disney princesses breastfeeding in public

The Disney princesses are at it again.

By now, we’ve pretty much seen the Disney princesses do everything. They’ve gotten their period, taken off their makeup, been inked, swapped races and gender and been turned into real people. Now, they’re breastfeeding!

Created by Loryn Brantz, an illustrator and staff writer at Buzzfeed, the latest crop of Disney images feature Ariel, Mulan, Pocahontas, Jasmine and Belle nursing their babies in public.

The breastfeeding debate is definitely not a new one and neither is the idea of using iconic characters – in this case, Disney princesses – to shed light on stigmas around trending topics like race, body image and women’s issues. By placing these princesses in urban settings like a park, restaurant, clothing store or simply on the street, Brantz’s sends a powerful message.

“How can a mother feeding her child bother someone?” asked on Facebook commenter. “This should never be questioned.”
