Downed Power Line Causes Fire in Icy Texas

Downed power lines caused a vegetation fire in Canyon Lake, Texas, a homeowner told Storyful, as a winter storm gripped the area on Wednesday, Februrary 1.

Kathryn Kay Catlett said that ice on her property in Canyon Lake caused downed power lines to ignite and spark a small fire.

Catlett said she had heard loud explosions and saw a glow inside their home before looking out to spot the burning tree.

The local fire department and electricity company attended and put out the fire, Catlett said.

Local media reported that thousands of power meters were affected by outages on Wednesday, caused by a winter storm which also downed trees and branches in central Texas.

Comal Independent School District said on Wednesday that schools were closed due to the storm, local media reported. Credit: Kathryn Kay Catlett via Storyful
