Ice Pieces Float Down New York River Amid Arctic Blast

The National Weather Service (NWS) reported wind chill as cold as -40 degrees Fahrenheit in upstate New York on Saturday, February 4, as an arctic blast brought frigid temperatures to the northeastern United States.

Timelapse videos posted by Ron Murphy on Saturday show sheets of ice floating on a river in Vestal, New York.

“It is amazing how fast ice forms, frazil pans, on the rivers at these temperatures,” Murphy said.
