Yahoo Movies The Hyundai Veloster N Is Officially Dead
If you want a Hyundai Veloster N, you better find one quickly. Hyundai announced Thursday that the 2020 Road & Track Performance Car of the Year is being discontinued after this model year, bringing an end to a short reign as the king of hot hatchbacks.
The decision is part of a company-wide pivot away from traditional hatchbacks in favor of sedans and compact crossovers. This time last year, Hyundai started by discontinuing the non-N Veloster variants. It has rolled out spectacular N variants of both the Elantra sedan and Kona crossover since, ending the Veloster N's brief time as the sole performance model in the American Hyundai lineup. With no more need to keep the model around just for its best and fastest variant, the Veloster N will be dropped after the 2022 model year.
If you like hatchbacks, you might want to get your hands on a new example while you still can. Not only did it win our Performance Car of the Year award in 2020, its sheer-fun-above-all ethos beat out everything from the first-ever mid-engined Corvette to the Lamborghini Huracan Evo, all while being the single cheapest car in the test. Hyundai's performance efforts under the N badge will continue on a variety of sedans and crossovers, but its first effort will always have a place in the hearts of enthusiasts who respect a good hot hatchback. Even if it did only come with an odd number of doors.
