Hy-Vee to close one of its KC locations and reopen it as a new wine and spirits concept

West Des Moines-based Hy-Vee is making a major change to one of its Northland locations.

The store at 207 N.E. Englewood Road will close at 6 p.m. Jan. 1 and reopen as a Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits store. The current Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh convenience store on the site will remain open.

Hy-Vee’s 364 full and part-time employees will have an opportunity to transfer to comparable positions at another area Hy-Vee, and the company said it has several locations nearby.

Wall to Wall Wine and Spirits is a new subsidiary of Hy-Vee featuring a large selection of wine and spirits, craft beer, specialty grocery items including cheese, charcuterie, chips and crackers, and sodas and seltzers. The stores will also sell high-end barware and related accessories.

A location opened in West Des Moines on Dec. 2 and three others are in the works in Nebraska.
