Hunter cuts himself while skinning a bear in Colorado. An SOS device saves him
A hunter cut himself while trying to skin a bear in Colorado, rescuers said. He couldn’t walk out of the wilderness on his own.
The hunter cut into his thigh on Sunday, Sept. 18, the Grand County Search and Rescue team said. His hunting partner bandaged the cut and stopped the bleeding, but the hunter didn’t think he could walk.
“(Rescuers) received a page for an activated SOS but the party was not answering return phone calls,” rescuers said in a Sept. 19 news release. “Once satellite contact was established, it was determined that a hunter had cut himself.”
A team of rescuers rushed to the scene after receiving the signal for help at about 10:30 a.m.
“The original plan was to extricate via litter, when teams arrived it was determined that the subject was able to walk out,” rescuers said.
Rescuers did not disclose the hunter’s identity or condition at the time.
Grand County is about 100 miles northwest of Denver.
