DOVER, Del. (AP) — Legislation to establish a state-run marijuana industry in Delaware has again failed to clear the state House. The Democrat-controlled chamber voted 23-15 on Thursday to approve the bill, which fell two votes short of the required supermajority. The proposal requires a three-fifths majority in both the House and Senate because it creates a new tax, consisting of a 15% levy on retail marijuana sales. Thursday’s vote came two months after a similar measure failed in the House on

The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board will keep investing in the fossil fuel industry even as it seeks to meet its sustainability target, CEO John Graham said on Thursday, adding the fund was "cautiously optimistic" about market returns given the Russia-Ukraine war, pandemic and supply chain issues. Canada's biggest pension fund, known as CPP Investments, will not outright exit from energy companies on its path toward net zero goals, but instead will finance companies to help them transition towards net zero goals, Graham said. CPP, which had C$539 billion ($420 billion) under management as of end March, has set a goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 for its portfolio companies and its own operations.

The U.S. Federal Reserve will lift interest rates higher by the end of this year than anticipated just a month ago, keeping alive already-significant risks of a recession, a Reuters poll of economists found. While U.S. inflation, running at a four-decade high, may have peaked in March, the Fed's 2% target is still far out of reach as disruptions to global supply chains continue to keep price rises elevated. The May 12-18 Reuters poll showed a near-unanimous set of forecasts for a 50-basis-point hike in the fed funds rate, currently set at 0.75%-1.00%, at the June policy meeting following a similar move earlier this month.
