'A human face to Asian culture': Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival hopes to break down barriers

The 7th Annual Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival took place this weekend, with the goal of promoting cultural preservation and solidarity. The two-day event was filled with several feature films and short films, and each feature film was accompanied by a live performance. The documentary film “Finding Her Beat,” which highlights the world’s best Taiko drummers, closed out the festival. Tiffany Tamaribuchi was featured in the film. She is the founder and artistic director of Sacramento Taiko Dan, which performed after the film screening Sunday night. Tamaribuchi also said she hopes the film, and Taiko drumming itself, helps break down barriers, especially as anti-Asian hate continues to bubble to the surface due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic.
