House of The Dragon fans are all sharing the same complaint after the latest episode aired earlier this week.

Episode seven "Driftmark" aired on Sky and NowTV on Monday (3rd October), with fans eager to find out what happened next in the Game of Thrones spin-off series. However, many were left disappointed with their experience of watching the HBO show as they found the lighting of the episode made it impossible to see anything that was going on.

The majority of episode seven took place at night, making it difficult for viewers to see what was going on and questioned why the show was so dark.

Many took to Twitter to express their frustration at not being able to watch the show. One person tweeted: "HOUSE OF THE DRAGON continuing the classic Thrones tradition of making an episode so dark it's almost unwatchable."

And another person said: "The nighttime visuals in House of the Dragon are simply too dark. These scenes would be so epic if I could actually see what was happening."

Some fans posted videos of their viewing set up, saying they had turned off all the lights, closed the curtains and still couldn't enjoy the show properly.

Other viewers decided to make light (see what I did there?) of the situation and shared memes about it.

One person shared a meme of cartoon Spiderman squinting and captioned it: "me every week having to squint to watch house of the dragon. why tf is it so dark? 😭"

Following a number of complaints the official HBOMax Twitter support account was responding to commenters to explain the lighting was an intentional creative decision.

Game of Thrones also faced similar criticism from viewers when episodes of the show aired. One episode in particular "The Long Night" from season eight, received a number of complaints from viewers who said they were unable to watch the episode (in which Arya kills the Night King) properly because of the lighting.

The director of "The Long Night", Miguel Sapochnik, also directed the most recent episode of House of The Dragon.

When speaking about the Game of Thrones episode he explained on the IndieWire Filmmaker Toolkit podcast he had intentionally made the episode dark in order to create "the feeling of claustrophobia, anxiety, and at times frustration, that these characters are experiencing.”

Well that answers that question then. Still going to watch with maximum brightness turned on though.
