Home Secretary and Prime Minister 'completely aligned' on migration - Jenrick
Immigration minister Robert Jenrick has insisted the Home Secretary and the Prime Minister are “completely aligned” in their stance on migration. He told broadcasters: “The Prime Minister, the Home Secretary and I are completely aligned on this issue. We see net migration as far too high. “We’re taking determined action this week. If we need to take more action we will, because net migration is placing an intolerable pressure on public services, on housing, on our ability to integrate people”. He also said he is “confident” the Government will clear the legacy asylum backlog by the end of 2023. The comments came shortly after he suggested that processing migrant claims faster would likely “lead to an increase” in people crossing the Channel. “I’m confident that we’re going to get the legacy backlog cleared by the end of the year,” Mr Jenrick told broadcasters.
