Home and Away brings in intimacy co-ordinator for new couple scenes

Home and Away spoilers follow for UK viewers.

Home and Away star Lukas Radovich has revealed that the show is taking a new approach to on-screen relationship storylines.

This year, Lukas's character Ryder Jackson has embarked on a romance with Summer Bay newcomer Chloe Anderson.

The pair have taken centre stage in recent storylines by launching their own food business, which ultimately takes a dramatic turn next week when their truck explodes and leaves lives hanging in the balance.

Speaking about filming his romantic scenes with Sam Barrett, who plays Chloe, Lukas told Digital Spy: "It's been a new experience for me as we have been working with an intimacy coordinator and that's the first time I've worked with one.

"It's something that Home and Away has been doing for a couple of the new couples on the show, and something that they want to do moving forwards for every fresh relationship.

"I've learnt a lot of skills on how to approach intimate scenes, and that's reflected in the story. It's just as vital as working with a stunt coordinator – so it was super interesting to look at intimate scenes in that way as well."

Ryder's new romance is his first since he had a disastrous experience with ruthless Jade Lennox in early 2020.

Lukas continued: "The new relationship has definitely been a step in the right direction in terms of Ryder's maturity and his experiences, as he knows his boundaries now.

"I think that was an important step that he needed to make before he went into another relationship, so I think this one is a lot more mature and much more equal.

"I met Sam for the first time over a Zoom call on her second audition. We did a chemistry test via Zoom as obviously it was during the pandemic and she was in Western Australia, so that was the only way to do it, which made it interesting!

"Ryder and Chloe didn't get along at first – it's always fun to play tension and drama in a relationship, and it ended up subsiding. But it's always really fun as when you get along with the other actor you're able to be playful with that drama and that tension."

On the ongoing food truck storyline, Lukas added: "Ryder and Chloe make such a great team as she has that creative spark and Ryder's the practical one. I think he's definitely excited though, especially to be working so closely with his girlfriend.

"I think Ryder has had a lack of direction, so I think it will be interesting for him to put all of his eggs in one basket for once and actually take a risk. I think that's something that’s been fun to play out."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.15pm and 6pm on Channel 5, with first look screenings at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
