Hollyoaks has aired Sami Maalik's heartbroken reaction to discovering the truth about girlfriend Verity Hutchinson's pregnancy lies.

Last week, Sami's cousin Shaq revealed he'd overheard Verity talking to Diane in the cafe about having to continue faking her pregnancy.

Monday's first-look episode picked up in the aftermath of the shock revelation, as Verity explained to Sami that the positive pregnancy test had been Diane's.

"I was trying to protect her. She couldn't bear to tell Tony her worst fear — that she was pregnant with my father's baby," she insisted. "I saw how badly you wanted to be a father, and the more you wanted it, the harder it was for me to tell you the truth. But we can still have it all. It's not too late. We can have the baby!"

Sami remained furious over the lies, telling Verity that "Edward would be very proud" because she was "manipulative through and through".

"You need help, and get it somewhere as far away from me as possible, because I never want to see your face again," he demanded.

He later calmed down and visited a devastated Verity, with the lawyer begging him for "one more chance" to explain the insidious influence her father still had on her life.

Sami admitted he'd wanted to spend the rest of his life with Verity, but didn't think he could get past the lies she'd told.

"Nothing would make me happier than raising our little boy or girl together in that dream house by the river," he later told her. "But every second we were together, I'd just be thinking about that lie you told that tore my heart in two.

"It would fester and it would grow, until all my love for you eventually turned to hate. All because I didn't have the courage to walk away. I'm sorry Verity, there's no future for us anymore."

Verity was left reeling by Sami's decision as the episode concluded.
