Hollyoaks' Mercedes makes discovery over kidnapping accusation

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Mercedes McQueen has realised it's impossible for her to have kidnapped baby Eva in Hollyoaks.

The fan-favourite character made her return in Friday's (July 23) E4 first-look episode, after checking into a psych ward because she'd been stitched up by stepdaughter Cher over the kidnapping.

Mercy put on a brave face for her family, but privately admitted to her husband Sylver she wanted to call time on their plans to have a baby due to what she'd been through.

Cher continued to scheme against her stepmum, this time convincing Tony Hutchinson to pay Mercy a visit as a way to destabilise her.

Her trick seemed to work because even though Tony tried to assure Mercy he knew she never would have snatched Eva in her right mind, she had a meltdown.

Mercedes retreated to the living quarters, where she replayed the drunken message she'd left Sylver on the day of the kidnapping. This is when she made a breakthrough by realising the timeline for the message and the snatching clashed!

"That was the day I took Eva, and the exact same time, but where was she?" Mercedes realised. "She clearly wasn't in the flat when I recorded this video.

"Hang on a minute, I didn't blackout because of some kind of breakdown! I passed out because I was steaming drunk. Nana, I didn't take that baby."

Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
