Holly Robinson Peete surprises as Fairy on 'The Masked Singer': 'Your voice is so beautiful'
The secret’s out: Holly Robinson Peete has some serious pipes.
The actress, best known for her roles in “21 Jump Street,” “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper” and “For Your Love,” became one of the latest celebrities to be unmasked on the reality-TV competition “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday night. WWE star Alexa Bliss, who portrayed the Axolotl character, also had her star identity revealed.
Dressed as the ethereal Fairy character, Peete showed off her vocal prowess on the Fox series with a powerhouse cover of Linda Ronstadt’s “You’re No Good,” which earned her the championship title during last week’s show.
“It feels so good to take the champion title last week. Linda is a dear friend, so I had to do her song justice,” Peete said after her win. “Music is a huge part of my life, and I’m loving every second I’m onstage.”
When it came time for Peete’s identity to be revealed on Wednesday, none of the show’s panelists – Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy – saw the reveal coming.
“No way,” McCarthy said in disbelief, to which Peete later replied, “How did you not know it was me? I feel like I know everybody on that panel, and nobody knew.”
Scherzinger said she was blown away by Peete’s musical chops.
“Your voice is so beautiful. You just pulled us right in,” Scherzinger told Peete. “Thank you so much for gracing us with your presence and your voice.”
Peete gushed that her stint on the show allowed her to indulge in a somewhat hidden talent.
“I’ve always sort of been a closet singer. I sang the theme songs to ‘Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper’ and ‘21 Jump Street,’” Peete said. “I’ve so enjoyed this. This was a lot of fun.”
