Highway 12 closed near Tri-Cities as fire jumps the road and is burning about 150 acres
Both lanes of Highway 12 are closed south of Burbank as a strike team heads to a 150-acre wild land fire.
The fire started about 12:45 p.m. Monday near Wallula Junction, according to dispatch reports. The fire has spread and jumped the highway and is burning in Washington Fish and Wildlife land in the area.
Firefighters have asked for two strike teams to help battle the fire.
The Washington State Department of Transportation has shut down the Highway near the Boise Paper plant. Traffic is being diverted.
There is no estimated time for when the highway will open.
The area remains under a Red Flag warning until 8 p.m. Monday. According to the National Weather Service, a cold front moving through the area is resulting in breezy to windy conditions.
The nearest monitoring station at the Tri-Cities Airport shows sustained wind at less than 10 mph with the occasional gust of about 20 mph.
