Hialeah Hospital staffer, TikTok star killed in hit-and-run crash. Cops looking for driver.

A Hialeah Hospital staffer who was an adored TikTok star died in a hit-and-run crash after leaving work earlier this week. Police are still searching for the driver who fatally struck the motorist.

Around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, a dark colored SUV or van was preparing to make a left turn at the intersection of East Eighth Avenue and East 21st Street, according to surveillance video released by Hialeah Police. Authorities are not clear on the type of vehicle involved.

While the unknown driver makes the turn, an oncoming motorcycle slams into the SUV or van, killing the motorcyclist. The driver of the vehicle continues on, stopping momentarily before ultimately fleeing the area.

A GoFundMe for Leonardo Gil Fraga identifies him as the motorcyclist who was killed in the crash after leaving his shift at Hialeah Hospital.

“The driver did not stop and left him to die on the corner of East 21st and 8 avenue in Hialeah,” the GoFundMe read. “The family was not prepared for the loss of this loving, kind, selfless young man. He leaves behind a big, loving, united family including his young son.”

He worked at Hialeah Hospital for more than 10 years. He initially started there as a janitor after immigrating from Cuba. He then worked as a patient transporter before becoming an endoscopy technician.

In addition to his lengthy career as a hospital worker, he had a sizable following on TikTok with over 1.3 million likes and more than 134,000 followers. Many of his videos surpassed 100,000 views.

“Everyone who met him loved him. He was always willing to help others. He was extremely dedicated and hardworking,” the GoFundMe read.

The fundraiser set a goal of $30,000 to help pay for his funeral and memorial costs. Created less than a day ago, the GoFundMe has received over 500 donations and reached more than $29,000, as of 5 p.m. Thursday.

“This loss has left his family in disbelief and heartache. His sudden passing has created a void in the lives of everyone he knew,” the fundraiser read.

A memorial was held in his honor Thursday morning at Hialeah Hospital, WSVN 7 News reported. Over a hundred family members, friends and coworkers gathered to grieve his loss.
