In the early 1990s, the country was horrified by the news that a man named Jeffrey Dahmer had killed, dismembered, had sex with, and in some cases, later eaten the bodies of at least 17 victims. Now, Dahmer's murders and his life story are the subject of a new Netflix limited series, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

The series breaks down each of Dahmer's murders and how they occurred, diving into his victims' stories, who were all murdered between 1978 and 1991. Most of the men Dahmer killed were gay men of color, and two of his victims were just 14 years old at the time, according to Biography. Dahmer usually kept freaky souvenirs from his crimes, including genitalia, skulls, and polaroid photos of the murders.

Dahmer confessed to killing 17 men in total, and was convicted in the murders of 15, according to Biography, but some people suspect that he may have had more victims during his long killing spree.

One of those suspected victims is a man named Dean Vaughn, whose death has remained a Milwaukee Police Department cold case since 1991. But who was Dean Vaughn and what is his connection to Jeffrey Dahmer? Here’s a breakdown of what the public knows.

He was found strangled in his apartment.

Dean Vaughn was found in his apartment at 924 N. 25th Street in Milwaukee at 12:30 a.m. on May 3, 1991, according to the Milwaukee Cold Case website. He was just 28.

FWIW, 924 N. 25th Street is the same apartment building that Dahmer lived in (and where several of his killings occurred), which means they were neighbors. And at least two of Dean's neighbors saw an “unknown subject” with Dean just before he died, according to Milwaukee Cold Case.

Dean also fit the general profile of Dahmer's victims, as he was a young Black man. His death would have occurred in the middle of Dahmer's last killing spree, just two months before he was discovered and arrested.

Dean appears in the series.

Dean Vaughn is played by actor Brandon Black in the limited series, per IMDB, and, like most of the serial killer's other victims, he appears in just one episode—episode 7.

The fictional Dean is shown helping his neighbor (and Dahmer's neighbor) Glenda Cleveland take stuff upstairs to her apartment after moving into the Oxford Apartments. Glenda then warns Dean to be wary of some of the people living in the building.

Shortly after, Dean meets Jeffrey, and then Glenda sees them come back to the building together that night. She tells the police that he was with Jeffrey the last time she saw Dean. Later, the show reveals that Dean's been missing for two weeks, hinting at the fact that Jeffrey had something to do with his death, per Pop Buzz.

Jeffrey Dahmer denied killing Dean.

Despite some of the details lining up with other victim profiles, Jeffrey denied that he played a role in Dean’s death.

There are other unsolved murders that could be connected to Jeffrey Dahmer, too.

During Dahmer's short stint in the army, he was stationed in West Germany, and there were five unsolved murders that occurred during that time, involving mutilated victims, according to a study by Radford University's psychology department.

Later, while living in Florida, another unsolved murder occurred where a 6-year-old boy, Adam Walsh, was abducted and found decapitated in a canal, the department reported. Dahmer also said he was not involved in this death, but the boy's father is convinced otherwise.

Dean Vaughn is still considered a cold case.

While Dean’s murder remains unsolved to this day, many people suspect that he is a Dahmer victim, as well.
