Here's Why Jonah Hill Wanted to Carry an Hermès Birkin in 'Don't Look Up'

Those who have seen Netflix's Don't Look Up -- an Adam McKay-directed satire packed with some of the biggest celebrity cameos -- will have noticed that Jonah Hill's carries an Hermès Birkin in a few scenes. In a recent interview with W Magazine, the actor revealed that the luxury bag was actually his idea. He additionally opened up about a potential Superbad sequel and meeting Meryl Streep.

The actor, who plays President Janie Orlean(played by Streep)'s son Jason, explained that he added the purse to his fit to show how much his character worships his mom. "He’s in a suit because he works in the White House, but I gave him a Birkin because he’s kind of emulating his mother," he said. "A lot of these people worship their dads, and I thought it was cool that he worships his mom. He always calls his mom a 'total rock star.' Isn’t that awesome?"

He further shared how starstruck he was when he met Meryl Streep. "I maybe shook her hand a couple of times. Then, like, right away we had to have a superclose dynamic. I was excited." He added that she is "so awesome: as a person, as a professional, as an artist."

As for Superbad, the star said he would be open to making a sequel when he's 80 years old. "I haven't pitched this to anybody. What I want to do is when we're like 80, do a Superbad 2. Like, 'old-folks-home Superbad.' Our spouses die, and we're single again. That's what I want Superbad 2 to be, and that's the only way I would ever make it."
