Here's the Trailer for John Boyega's Lost Sundance Hit, 'Imperial Dreams'

The Force is so strong, it’s even helping revive the dead.

In between breaking out in sci-fi flick Attack the Block and becoming a global mega-star thanks to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John Boyega starred as a struggling ex-con in a small indie drama called Imperial Dreams (watch the trailer above). The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014 and won the Audience Award, but despite good reviews — especially for Boyega’s performance — it never closed a distribution deal.

On the bright side, the film helped convince J.J. Abrams that he needed to cast Boyega in The Force Awakens. And now Boyega is returning the favor for Imperial Dreams and director Malik Vitthal, promoting the film and its trailer on his Instagram.

Imperial Dreams [is] based on a young troubled writer who has to struggle in the imperial courts projects while single handedly raising his son,” Boyega wrote, referring to the infamous housing project in Los Angeles. “This is an important story, I’m glad it’s being told and I’m really excited for you guys to see this.”

The film doesn’t have distribution yet, but is now being shopped around and shown to distributors again in the wake of Boyega’s newfound stardom.
