Here’s a Little First Look at Disney’s ‘Moana’

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. And this week, Moana’s journey to the big screen kicked off with a two-second clip shown on the Disney Channel.

Set to hit theaters in November, the animated Disney flick features newcomer Auli’i Cravalho — a 14-year-old Hawaiian girl — as the voice of the title character who’s on an epic ocean journey. She’s joined by a demigod named Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), and their adventures will feature music from Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda (who also wrote music with J.J. Abrams for Maz Kanata’s cantina scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens).

In the small nugget of footage, Johnson’s Maui is seen twirling his staff and smiling like The Rock is cooking him a big personal cake. Miranda tweeted the video out — as you can see above — noting his excitement about working on the film.

If his work with Disney is anywhere as critically beloved as the hit Broadway show Hamilton, the internet may be even more obsessed with Moana than it was with Frozen, the most recent Disney princess adventure.
