In her ‘football era’? Taylor Swift fans (mostly) excited she’s in KC to watch Travis Kelce

Taylor Swift said yes to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on Sunday — accepting his invitation to watch him play at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

And the reaction to her return to Arrowhead, where she played two huge shows in early July, came swiftly from her fans.

“I’m living for this,” one Swiftie gushed on Instagram.

“I’m totally cheering for this relationship!!!!” wrote another.

Fans have spent the last few weeks trying to figure out if there was anything to the growing rumors of a budding relationship between their favorite singer and the star football player.

On Sunday thousands blessed the development with thumbs-up and heart emojis all over social media, where the news was breathlessly reported by media outlets from Seventeen and People magazines to Rolling Stone and ESPN.

And just like like that, for Swifties anyway, the game between the Chiefs and Chicago Bears devolved into: Chiefs who?

“I’m not watching the Chiefs game, I’m watching Taylor Swift watching the Chiefs game,” one Swiftie wrote on Facebook.

Comments on Swift fan pages were by and large positive, most similar to these from the Swifites 2.0 Facebook page.

“Maybe we’ll get a Football Era!”

As happy as Swift looked watching the game in Kelce’s suite next to his mother, Donna Kelce, some fans don’t believe the relationship will progress, a growing skepticism in some corners of her fandom.

The fact that she is a Philadelphia Eagles fan seems to be one stumbling block. The Chiefs beat Philly — and Kelce’s brother, Jason, — in the Super Bowl this year.

Other fans suggested that big, rugged Kelce doesn’t seem to have much in common with other guys Swift has dated, a lineup of mostly actors and other singers that includes Joe Jonas, Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal and John Mayer.

And some Swift fans weren’t convinced that her showing up at the game proved anything other than that she was just having a fun day at Arrowhead.

Are they really dating, they wondered?

But local Swifties were excited at the prospect of more Swift sightings now in Kansas City.

Good for business, after all.
