Fans of Helen Mirren are most familiar with seeing her starring on the big screen or posing on the red carpet.

But the actress, 74, has given a sneak peek into her home life, and revealed the two unlikely household items she has been loving during the coronavirus lockdown.

In a post on Instagram to her 865,000 followers, she shared a picture of a bird feeder hanging from a branch in her garden.

She captioned the image: “One of my favourite things in quarantine was...1. The bird feeder.”

The star then posted a second snap of her hoover of choice, resting against a wall inside her home.

She wrote: “2. The Dyson rechargeable vacuum.”

Her recommendations each received more than 10,000 ‘likes’, with many of her followers agreeing with her.

In relation to the bird feeder, one person wrote: “Bird watching is mindfulness...serotonin release.”

Another commented: “I bought two. Would sit for hours and just watch the birds and the wind blowing the trees.”

Referring to the vacuum cleaner, a third shared: “Best purchase I ever made.”

And a fourth added: “My favourite tool in my house!”

The actress’ model of choice appears to be the Dyson V8 Animal - prices of which begin at £349 - and is, as she suggests, in the brand’s cord-free range.

It cleans up mess across a range of surfaces for up to 40 minutes, before it will need to be recharged.

The revelation comes after social media users shared their spring cleaning suggestions to try during the pandemic.

One person revealed on Instagram that she had been using a weekly planner to keep “on track”.

Others have been whiling away the time assembling spice racks, with many using a special ‘typewriter’ labelling system.

Some parents revealed they had enlisted their children - home from school - to help out with the housework.

On Instagram, one mum explained: “During the pandemic my girls will be learning the important things as well as their everyday maths and English it’s important we teach them to cook clean and look after themselves and their family.

“My eldest really enjoyed dusting the skirting boards today.”

Another on Twitter added: “In the spirit of not panicking - I’ve said (when well) I’m going to do 45-60 mins a day cleaning tasks...no more!”
