Heavy Rainfall Triggers Landslides in India's Kerala State

Intense rainfall triggered landslides in India’s Kerala state on October 17.

At least 27 people were killed by the extreme weather, according to local news reports. The majority of the deaths were in the Kottayam district.

A red alert was issued for the state on October 16, as a low-pressure system was expected to bring “extremely heavy falls” to the area, the India Meteorological Department said.

Heavy rainfall was expected to return to Kerala on October 20, according to the national weather agency.
