HBO Max Pirate Comedy ‘Our Flag Means Death’ Adds Six to Cast, Including ‘Game of Thrones’ Alum Kristian Nairn

The HBO Max pirate comedy series “Our Flag Means Death” is rounding out its cast with six new additions.

Kristian Nairn, Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Rory Kinnear, Con O’Neill and Vico Ortiz will all join the show alongside previously announced series lead Rhys Darby. Taika Waititi will also appear in the series as the infamous pirate Blackbeard in addition to working behind the camera.

“Our Flag Means Death” is loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate. The show was originally ordered at HBO Max in September 2020.

Nairn (“Game of Thrones,” “The Little People”) will appear as Wee John Feeney. Foad (“Bloods”) will play Lucius. Kayo (“Truth Seekers,” “The Bubble”) will plauy Oluwande. Kinnear (“Penny Dreadful,” “The Imitation Game”) will pull double duty as Captain Nigel Badminton and Chauncey Badminton. O’Neill (“The Batman,” “Chernobyl”) will play Izzy. Ortiz (“Vida,” “American Horror Story: 1984”) will play Bonifacia.

Nairn is repped by APA and Coalition. Foad is repped by CAA and Curtis Brown. Samson Kayo is repped by CAA and Artists First. Kinnear is repped by Markham, Froggatt & Irwin. O’Neill is repped by Claire Hoath Management, Mosaic and Brecheen Feldman Breimer Silver Thompson LLP. Ortiz is represented by BBA Talent and DePaz Management.

“Our Flag Means Death” hails from writer, showrunner, and executive producer David Jenkins. Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted also serves as executive producers along with Waititi, who will direct the pilot as well in addition to playing Blackbeard.
