Hayden Panettiere has landed her next lead movie role, joining the cast for Amber Alert.

As per Deadline, the star will join Tyler James Williams in the feature, which has been written and directed by Kerry Bellessa, with the plot set to depict how an “ordinary rideshare becomes a high-stakes game of cat and mouse”.

As per the logline, Amber Alert will follow Jaq (Panettiere), who is keen to get to her first day in a new job, while her driver Shane (Williams), is trying to earn a little extra at his side hustle.

However, when an alert of a child abduction appears on their phones, they realise they are behind a car that matches the description of the kidnapper’s. They then begin a pursuit that puts their lives at risk, determined to stop a possible child trafficker escape.

Amber Alert will be Panettiere’s first film project following appearances in Scream and Scream VI, though it’s currently unknown if she will return for the seventh entry in the horror franchise given the recent upheaval.

After Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega both exited the movie, the project took another blow as Christopher Landon announced that he had stepped down as director, with the filmmaker saying the production had become a “nightmare”.

“I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes [Craven's] legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and Kevin [Williamson] created is something amazing and I was honoured to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow.”
