Having purchased AU$2.2m worth of EP&T Global Limited (ASX:EPX) stock, the recent 13% pullback is not what insiders may have expected

The recent 13% drop in EP&T Global Limited's (ASX:EPX) stock could come as a blow to insiders who purchased AU$2.2m worth of stock at an average buy price of AU$0.15 over the past 12 months. Insiders purchase with the hope of seeing their investments increase in value over time. However, due to recent losses, their initial investment is now only worth AU$502k, which is not great.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At EP&T Global

The Founder & Executive Director Kirthi Gunaratne made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for AU$2.0m worth of shares at a price of AU$0.15 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of AU$0.034. Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. It is generally more encouraging if they paid above the current price, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that EP&T Global insiders own 41% of the company, worth about AU$3.4m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About EP&T Global Insiders?

The fact that there have been no EP&T Global insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. It would be great to see more insider buying, but overall it seems like EP&T Global insiders are reasonably well aligned (owning significant chunk of the company's shares) and optimistic for the future. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
