History was made this weekend, when Disney introduced its two most best-known scofflaws to one another.

Johnny Depp — who attended the studio’s D23 convention on Saturday to tease his next Pirates of the Caribbean movie — came face-to-face with Harrison Ford, who was in Anaheim to plug the forthcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Depp, in costume as Jack Sparrow, seemed to have perplexed Ford, who was definitely not dressed as Han Solo (unless the space smuggler is being given a preppier wardrobe, now that he’s no longer in debt to Jabba the Hutt).

Both Depp and Ford made surprise visits to the fan convention, which ran from Friday to Sunday. Depp flattered the fans, though he objected to reducing their relationship to such a coarse term. “I never really liked the word fan,” he told the audience. “It implies that someone is over someone else. I would say that you are actually my employer.” He then threw grapes at his employers, while slurring in Sparrow’s now-iconic voice. This guy!

Ford, meanwhile, was making just his second appearance since being injured in a plane crash this spring. In July, he appeared at Comic-Con, delighting the audience with stories of his return to the franchise that made him a star 30 years prior. And at D23, he had similarly warm words to say about the role.

“I’m very happy, yesterday following in the footsteps of George Lucas, the author of the early chapters of my story,” he said. “It’s a great thrill to be with you, who made this whole thing happen.

Ford later warmed to Sparrow/Depp, and though we don’t know what they spoke about, we assume they bonded over their ability to stay handsome forever.

Depp’s next Pirates film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, hits theaters in July 2017. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be unleashed on December 18.
