Harley Quinn season 4 spoilers follow.

Harley Quinn's animated series isn't afraid to take a pop at DC's more... 'passionate' fans, in fact, it seems to revel in it.

The latest episode of the adult comedy saw Harley and her girlfriend Poison Ivy return from the year 2048 to find the world had fallen to the apocalypse and Lex Luthor had blocked out the sun to depower Superman.

Visually, it's represented by muted colours, a staple of Zack Snyder's filmmaking style, especially when he was directing DC's superhero films.

Stepping out of their time machine into the colourless world, Ivy said: "F*ck, we're gone a few days and the Synderverse people took over."

It's not the first time that the show has had a pop at the Snyderverse specifically, as it previously featured a bit where two fans watching TV (one in a 'Release the Snyder Cut' t-shirt and the other in a 'The Last Jedi is not canon' one) argued over whether they were going watch Harley Quinn or not.

Last weekend, it was announced that Arleen Sorkin, the original voice actor and inspiration for Harley Quinn, had died at the age of 67.

Mark Hamill, who voiced the Joker alongside her in Batman: The Animated Series and other DC projects, led the tributes, writing: "Devastated to learn we've lost the brilliant Arleen Sorkin. Not just a wonderful talent, but a truly wonderful person. I'm grateful not only to have worked with her, but to have been her friend. Sending my heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones."

Harley Quinn streams on Max in the United States, and airs on E4 in the United Kingdom.
