Following in the footsteps of sacai's Chitose Abe, Balmain's Olivier Rousteing and Y/Project's Glenn Martens, Haider Ackermann is the next name to join Jean Paul Gaultier as the guest designer for the house's upcoming Haute Couture collection.
The creative's range for JPG will be unveiled in January for the Spring 2023 season. Gaultier shared with WWD, "I’ve always loved Haider’s work, especially on the tailoring. I am certain that his couture will be remarkable, and I cannot wait to discover the collection that he will present."
Gaultier has been tapping some of the most exciting names in fashion to design his Haute Couture collections following his departure from his namesake brand in 2020, marking an end to his 50-year career.
Ackermann spoke of the collaboration, "I have enormous respect for how progressive and avant-garde his work has always been. He has always pushed the envelope in culture and society as a whole, above and beyond fashion. To approach haute couture has always been my dream, and now being the guest of the Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture house is an immense honor that I fully embrace."
Ackermann is loved for his tailored designs, often seen on red carpet moments from names like Timotheé Chalamet and Tilda Swinton. Most recently, he announced a collaboration with FILA while previous partnerships include a hoodie release with Chalamet to help women and children in Afghanistan.
