Gwyneth Paltrow has compared sending her teenage daughter Apple Martin to college with childbirth.

Speaking about the 18-year-old's milestone, the actress and 'lifestyle guru' told  CBS' Sunday Morning: "I know this sounds nuts, [but] it feels almost as profound as giving birth."

The Oscar winner, who has become known for making over-the-top comments, shares Apple with rocker ex-husband Chris Martin, 45.

The pair, who also share 16-year-old son Moses, split in 2016 after nearly 13 years of marriage and famously referred to the marriage breakdown as "consciously uncoupling".

The 49-year-old actress also spoke about their co-parenting. "He’s completely my family, and I love him.

"And he would do anything for me. I would do anything for him. He would do anything for our kids. We really did commit to wanting our children to be as unscathed by the divorce as possible."

Paltrow, who is the founder of lifestyle site Goop addressed another milestone - her turning 50 on September 27.

Asked by the interviewer what she'd be doing at age 50 when she was in her twenties, she replied: "I don't think I thought about it. I thought, you know, 50 is, like, you're dead at that point."

The chat comes after Paltrow, who married Glee producer Brad Falchuk in 2018, revealed that she is embracing her "loosening skin and wrinkles" ahead of her birthday.

She wrote in a candid essay shared on Goop that she had "accepted her body and let go of the need to be perfect."

Adding: "My body, a map of the evidence of all the days, is less timeless. A collection of marks and irregularities that dog-ear the chapters.

"Scarred from oven burns, a finger smashed in a window long ago, the birth of a child.

"Silver hair and fine lines. The sun has left her celestial fingerprints all over me, as if she soaked a brush in dark-taupe watercolor, flecking it over my skin.

"And while I do what I can to strive for good health and longevity, to stave off weakening muscles and receding bone, I have a mantra I insert into those reckless thoughts that try to derail me: I accept."
