A Guardians of the Galaxy game is officially on the way, with Square Enix and Eidos-Montréal announcing at E3 that a new video game is on the horizon.

Described as a "wild ride through mind-blowing worlds inhabited by iconic and original Marvel characters", Guardians of the Galaxy will be released worldwide on October 26 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Players will take on the role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in the narrative-driven, single-player, third-person action-adventure game, working to save the universe with a "band of misfits", including familiar faces from the Marvel film such as Groot, Gamora, Drax and Rocket.

Fans of the film will be pleased to hear the game promises an "all-star 80s soundtrack", including the likes of Iron Maiden, Kiss, New Kids on the Block, Rick Astley and more.

Announcing the game and revealing the trailer (which you can watch above), Jean-Francois Dugas, Senior Creative Director at Eidos-Montréal said: "Working closely with the team at Marvel Games, we took a deep dive into 50 years of Guardians of the Galaxy history – from comics to movies, animated series and more – in order to create a fresh and unique take on this band of misfits.

"This also gave us the opportunity to pick and choose cosmic Marvel characters that were the best fit for the story we wanted to tell. There’s gonna be some familiar names, some you probably don’t know, as well as some surprises… We can’t wait for you to meet them."
