New sessions added to MOSSA On Demand demonstrate how to relieve the negative effects of sitting on the body

ATLANTA, May 23, 2022--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MOSSA, the developers of group fitness programs that have inspired millions to move, announces the launch of "De-Desk Your Body." This series includes six guided sessions, available through MOSSA On Demand, that demonstrate stretches and mobility movements that help reduce the negative effects of sitting for prolonged periods and improve one’s Movement Health.

According to research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four Americans spends more than eight hours per day in a seated position. Additional data suggests that the rise of sedentary lifestyles leads to aches and pains earlier in life, which are caused by metabolic dysfunction resulting from spending too much time sitting. Sitting disease, the term coined by the scientific community, encompasses this dysfunction, which can include carpal tunnel syndrome, neck and back pain, and general soreness and decreased energy.

MOSSA On Demand’s De-Desk Your Body guides users through targeted movements that help reduce the soft tissue stiffness, tightness and soreness many people feel after sitting. There are seated sessions, standing sessions and floor work, all with the end goal of helping reset postural balance, which makes one feel better immediately.

"We understand that many people have desk jobs that keep them in seated positions most of the day. But this, coupled with decreased physical activity due to the pandemic or other factors, is concerning, as it can lead to a host of long-term problems," says Cathy Spencer-Browning, VP of Programming & Training at MOSSA. "De-Desk offers simple ways for people to get in a few minutes of activity, or ‘movement snacks,’ throughout the day that can help reduce the soreness and stickiness they feel from being in a chair for hours."

A study conducted by the University of Utah School of Medicine showed just two minutes of physical activity for each hour of sitting can reduce the risk of premature death by up to 33 percent. The MOSSA On Demand "De-Desk Your Body" sessions are only 5-7 minutes and can easily be incorporated into a busy schedule.

"The goal of De-Desk is to get people up out of their chairs for just a few minutes for every two hours of sitting so their bodies can feel and move better," adds Spencer-Browning. "At MOSSA, we focus on Movement Health, which means moving with ease and less restriction. We want everyone to inhabit a healthy, happy body that can move resiliently."

To improve one’s Movement Health, MOSSA’s workouts and work-ins are essential. Work-ins, which include "De-Desk Your Body" and MOSSA’s NIMBL Percussion sessions, facilitate recovery by reversing some of the mechanical and metabolic stresses to the body that take place during a workout and from sitting too long.

"De-Desk Your Body" is now available through MOSSA On Demand. MOSSA On Demand is available for $9.99 per month at https://mossaondemand.net/. New subscribers can sign up for a 14-day free trial to start their journey to better Movement Health.
