Groom gets stuck on ferry just before wedding — with photographer and DJ, but no bride

A groom was riding a ferry across the Boston Harbor to attend his wedding — until it broke down.

The bride had already arrived at Thompson Island for the Aug. 13 ceremony. But the groom, wedding photographer, DJ, members of the wedding party and all of the flowers for the day were noticeably absent.

They had hopped on a ferry that broke down in the harbor and were stuck on the boat as the start time for the ceremony drew closer.

A Boston Police Department Harbor Patrol Unit was alerted about the disabled ferry. When they found out the groom was on board, they rushed to help them.

“The officers quickly responded to assist but when they arrived to escort the groom, they realized that the situation was dire, as several other members of the wedding party were also without a means of transport,” Boston police said in a news release.

With the officers help, the groom and other crucial wedding members made it safely to their destination and wedding on time, police said.

“We had six minutes to spare,” officer Joseph Matthews told WCVB. “It will give them something to remember. Getting a ride on a police boat is kind of special for their big night.”
