Yahoo Movies 'Grace and Frankie' Fans, There Are Rumors Swirling About a New Spinoff

Throughout its iconic seven season Netflix run, Grace and Frankie has garnered an impressive fan base across multiple demographics. As the streaming service’s longest-running series, fans had an opportunity to become incredibly attached to the characters, plot and comedy that ties it all together. It’s because of this that so many fans were devastated to find out that season 7, which premiered on April 29, would be the last chapter of Grace and Frankie’s story.
Although the show is coming to a close, there’s a silver lining: Actress June Diane Raphael, who plays Grace (Jane Fonda)'s daughter, Brianna Hanson, in the series, has a spinoff up her sleeve.
The screenwriter for the 2009 rom-com Bride Wars, June knows a thing or two about telling a compelling (and hilarious) story. When it comes to Grace & Frankie, she felt that Brianna’s story simply wasn’t over. So, she went to the producers with an idea that she’d been contemplating for years.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in April, the actress opened up about why she believes her character has more to offer on the small screen. "I think exploring what it means to be a middle-aged woman [like Brianna] without children or a husband is equally exciting,” she said. “It was actually around season four or five that I started thinking of these other stories for Brianna and really itching for more."

Fortunately for Grace and Frankie fans, the show’s producers entertained the idea and encouraged June to sit down with series co-creator Howard Morris. According to her, they discussed it at-length during the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
"We talked about what Brianna is potentially losing and gaining as she ages alone, and how a woman who is alone can create a deep fear in so many people," she said to THR. "Once we felt we had the pilot story, we spent the next few months writing it.”
Although the show hasn’t been given the green light yet, the mere fact that it’s already been considered by the higher-ups is a good sign. Here’s hoping a confirmation comes in the months ahead.
