GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert's race just got tighter

One midterm race that still hasn't been called is in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, between incumbent Rep. Lauren Boebert (R) and her Democratic challenger, Adam Frisch.

New results were released on Thursday afternoon, and Boebert is now leading Frisch by just 556 votes, with some ballots still left to be counted, The Associated Press reports. This is a margin of around 0.34 percent, and under Colorado state law, a recount is automatically triggered at 0.5 percent. Both campaigns have spent the last few days "curing" ballots, meaning they attempt to fix issues with ballots that were rejected due to things like mismatched signatures.

Boebert, a vocal Trump and gun rights supporter, was the favorite to win re-election, as redistricting made the area she represents more conservative, AP reports. Frisch is a businessman and former member of the Aspen City Council, who sought support from Democrats, moderates, and disillusioned Republicans.

Frisch told AP the fact that the race is so close shows that voters are ready for change. He wouldn't be surprised if he ended up winning the election, Frisch added, but "we obviously can't be surprised if we lose. We're not that wacko."

Distressed sawfish rescued in Florida Keys dies after aquarium treatment
An endangered sawfish rescued last month in the Florida Keys after it was spotted acting erratically and swimming in circles has died as wildlife officials continue to search for what is causing fish to become distressed. The Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium in Sarasota said in a statement that the 11-foot (3.3-meter) smalltooth sawfish died Thursday at the facility, where it had been undergoing treatment. It was rescued April 5 off Cudjoe Key, part of an abnormal fish die-off that has killed at least 45 sawfish and other fish species as well.

Midstate teen's death may have been connected to game, investigators say
The Dauphin County District Attorney provided an update Friday on the investigation into the death of 16-year-old Justin Johnson. Johnson was found unresponsive in his home last Friday night. He died later at the hospital because of complications from sickle cell disease, according to the coroner. The teenagers seen on video visiting Johnson at his home on Friday night, and possibly earlier in the week, appeared to be part of a game on social media in which players "tag" each other, oftentimes video taping it or making sure other people see it. During the news conference, officials held up a water gun that one of the teens had. The water gun was apparently part of the game. Dauphin County authorities also made it clear that they're still digging through a significant amount of digital data from devices of those involved or people who may have had knowledge of the events. They are trying to determine if any criminal act took place.

President Joe Biden followed through on Friday on his vow to veto a Republican-backed measure that would have repealed a U.S. labor board rule treating companies as the employers of many of their contract and franchise workers and requiring them to bargain with those workers' unions.
