Good Samaritans Rescue Elderly Man From Flooded Vehicle During Hurricane Ian

A group of good samaritans rescued an elderly man stranded in surging waters in Bonita Springs, Florida, as Hurricane Ian battered the state’s southwestern coastline on Wednesday, September 28.

This video recorded by @colliercountycowboys_ shows the man being lifted from a vehicle submerged in floodwaters and dragged through waist-high waters to safety.

Benny from @colliercountycowboys_ said the vehicle’s door was wedged shut prior to their intervention.

“We saw an elderly man struggling in his car and we knew he needed help,” he said.

“The guys all maintained to grab the door and pry it open. He was a bit in shock so he didn’t want to let go so we assured him we were there to help him. The guys carefully picked him up out of the car, and brought him to shore, away from the current.”

The National Weather Service reported that Hurricane Ian made landfall near Cayo Costa as a Category 4 hurricane with maximum wind speeds of 150 mph. It was later downgraded to a Category 3 storm as it moved north. Credit: @colliercountycowboys_ via Storyful
