After comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell Friday morning, investors are once again squirming to figure out the central bank's next move on interest rates. S&P Global Ratings Global Chief Economist Paul Gruenwald joins Yahoo Finance to try and make sense of the ongoing debate around whether or not the US economy will have a soft landing in 2024, and how the market will operate on the Fed's monetary policy. "If the market starts to ease too early and we see bond yields fall, for example, that eases financial conditions too early and kind of increases the probability that the central bank has to do more, so I think the Fed would prefer not to do more at this point and let the markets do the work, but the job of the markets now is to kind of keep those financial conditions tight enough to slow the economy," Gruenwald elaborates.
