Golden Globe winner Jodie Foster explains why she name-dropped Aaron Rodgers in acceptance speech

On Sunday, Jodie Foster won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, for her performance in The Mauritanian.

And during her acceptance speech, viewers may have been surprised by one of the people she thanked, Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

The mention stretches back to a similar occurrence from Rodgers, who thanked Foster in his NFL MVP acceptance speech, and who recently announced his engagement to Mauritanian co-star Shailene Woodley.

In a backstage interview following her win, Foster told Yahoo Entertainment, “I decided that not only am I a huge Packers fan, but I am a MVP. I am [a] competitive MVP with Aaron Rogers!”

She also clarified that she has “never met” Rodgers and also that she didn’t set him up with Woodley.

“I did not set up Shailene and Aaron,” she said. “But it is possible that I do like to talk about how much I love the Green Bay Packers … Shailene is very aware of my enthusiasm for the team.”

JODIE FOSTER: I love my wife. Thank you, Alex, and Ziggy, and Aaron Rodgers, and, you know, the Hollywood Foreign Press. i decided that not only am I a huge Packers fan, but I am MVP. I am competitive MVP with Aaron Rodgers. I'm a huge Packers fan and I-- in fact, I just got a very cute video from Aaron Rodgers where he says he's going to get me back. So I'm looking forward to this. We'll see who wins.

I did not set up Shailene and Aaron. I have never met Aaron Rodgers, but it is possible that I do like to talk about how much I love the Green Bay Packers and sometimes I can talk a little bit too much about that. So, of course, Shailene is very-- was very aware of my enthusiasm for the team.

- And the Golden Globe goes to my bestie Jodie Foster.

JODIE FOSTER: No way. I don't think I've ever been as surprised by an award ever in my entire life. This is the most surprising one I've ever had in my whole life. And, you know, mostly because of the amazing performances by all these women in this category, but-- I don't know, I guess I just never expected I would ever be back here, you know? I just never did. When I won the Cecil B. DeMille, I remember saying that, you know, I don't know if I'll ever be on the stage again. And the HFPA, kind of, feels like family to me because I have been coming since I was 12, 13, 14 years old. I have a lot of nostalgia about it. So, once again, I just couldn't have been more shocked. I guess I just never-- I never thought I'd be here again.
