What’s this Goldee’s and how did it get to be No. 1? And more Fort Worth BBQ picks

From Austin to Kennedale

Hey, Bud! What’s this Goldee’s that Texas Monthly picked as the best barbecue in Texas?

—Lots of readers

It’s a back-road dive south of Kennedale run by pitmasters who used to work in Austin. It’s only open for lunch Fridays through Sundays, and the lines at 4645 Dick Price Road will be long from now on.

Welcome to BBQ Town

Hey, Bud! What’s your No. 1?

—Carlos, Fort Worth

I agree with Texas Monthly that Goldee’s is consistently excellent. But No. 10 Panther City’s brisket elote is addictive, and both Dayne’s and Smoke-A-Holics have clever takes. When friends come to town, I still send them to Heim on the River, or for less expensive plates, Angelo’s, BBQ on the Brazos or Cousin’s for brisket and Railhead for ribs.

Love for Love’s beans

Hey, Bud! Who has the best pinto beans?

—Bean guy

No question — chef Tim Love has them at Woodshed Smokehouse. Get a smoked loaded baked potato and a side of beans and you’ve had a great lunch or dinner for less than $20.
