What to bring to the Super Bowl 2023

To fend off germs

Face mask

While COVID-19 transmission remains a risk, it isn't the only illness to worry about. Other respiratory viruses such as respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza are also the ai r, creating a "tripledemic." Fortunately, the same masks that are great at filtering the particles responsible for COVID-19 also protect from other respiratory viruses. So, if you want to make sure your trip to the Super Bowl doesn't end with sickness, it's a good idea to pack a couple of KN95 or N95 masks.

Hand sanitizer

It’s safe to say you’ll have some good grub at the Super Bowl, but one of the easiest ways to acquire an illness is by ingesting infected droplets when you eat, so it's simply good form to make sure you wash your hands before you chow down. It's understandable if you don't want to get up to the bathroom every time a hotdog or nacho vendor comes by, so you can disinfect your hands in a pinch with travel-sized hand sanitizer. Not to mention, it’ll be perfect for fending off germs while traveling.

Vaccine card holder

While the National Football League (NFL) hasn't revealed a Super Bowl COVID-19 policy for this year yet, it should be noted that last year the league required that guests either have proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test, in addition to a photo ID and a mask. It's a good idea to have a vaccine cardholder just in case the NFL has similar requirements this year. This holder from Etsy comes in eight different colors and allows you to further customize it with engravings if you choose. Plus, it hooks right onto a keyring for easy carrying.

Carry-on luggage

Whether traveling by plane or by car to the Super Bowl, you'll want to pack efficiently in a quality carry-on in order to bring everything you want to Arizona. After all, you must have room for jerseys, foam fingers and any other products you might need to show off your team spirit. We've tested several carry-ons and we found one of the best to be the Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 thanks to its great build quality, multiple handles and large carrying capacity.

Water bottle

You might find yourself with a long flight (or long layover), or perhaps dehydrated from, ehem, Super Bowl festivities. In any case, you’ll want to pack a bottle of water to quench your thirst. While many airports have water fountains, it's understandable if you're a bit wary of putting your mouth near a public spigot when there are so many germs flying around. If you're in need of a new water bottle, consider picking up the Brita BB11 Premium Filtering Water Bottle, the best water bottle we've tested. It filters odors, opens with one hand and keeps water cold for 24 hours.

Travel pillow

No matter if you're spending hours on a bus, train or plane, one sad fact remains constant: it's not your bed. Trying to sleep while sitting upright can be very uncomfortable and lead to painful cricks in your neck. We recommend bringing a travel pillow, particularly the Cabeau Evolution Classic Travel Pillow, which we found to be the best out of all the travel pillows we tested because of its amazing support and durability. If you're a side sleeper, try the incredibly soft and innovative J-Pillow Travel Pillow.

To enjoy the game

Finding the right team swag is only half the battle when it comes to experiencing the game the right way.

Binoculars

One advantage to watching the Super Bowl at home is that the film angles let you clearly see every play. While watching the game in person can be more exciting, you'll have to put more work into it, especially if you have a seat in the nosebleed section. We recommend bringing along a good pair of binoculars so you can see the action no matter where you're sitting. The Nikon Aculon A211 10-22x50 is one of the best binoculars you can buy. While it’s a bit heavy, it offers 10 to 22 times magnification and boasts a large, 50mm diameter. Plus, it's very inexpensive relative to its quality.

Earplugs

One of the best things about watching sporting events live is experiencing the excitement unfiltered by a screen. The Super Bowl is sure to be a boisterous event. Perhaps a bit too boisterous if you're sensitive to loud noise. With a quality pair of earplugs, you can still enjoy the Super Bowl without feeling overwhelmed and without damaging your ear drums. Loop Earplugs are effective at muting sound to more quiet, manageable levels.

Portable charger

It seems no matter how much care you put into charging your phone, your battery is always on the verge of dying. Because of this, you'll want to bring a charged portable battery with you so you can focus on the game (and snapping great phone pictures) instead of your phone's charge. The Mophie Powerstation PD is our favorite portable charger thanks to its compact size and fast charge times. You'll have no problem keeping your phone charged all through the game with the Mophie Powerstation in your pocket.

Team apparel

Don’t show up to the Super Bowl in person if you're not dressed to impress in your favorite team's apparel. When it comes to sports merch, there's nothing quite as ubiquitous as a jersey displaying the logos and colors from your favorite player.

$150 from NFL Shop

You can wear a team hat to complete the outfit or wear it solo for a more low-key look. Don’t forget to dress the baby up in an adorable matching bodysuit.
