Kentucky signees Robert Dillingham and Reed Sheppard are introduced to the crowd during the Kentucky-Kansas game at Rupp Arena in January. Both players are part of UK’s 2023 recruiting class.

While Saturday night’s on-court result didn’t do much to advance Kentucky basketball’s goals for the 2022-23 season, the surrounding excitement for UK’s marquee home game against Kansas probably left an impact with some future Wildcats.

During the first media timeout of Saturday night’s game, future UK players Robert Dillingham and Reed Sheppard were introduced to an already raucous Rupp Arena crowd. Both players are UK signees and part of head coach John Calipari’s top-ranked recruiting class in 2023.

The warm reception that greeted Dillingham and Sheppard was witnessed firsthand by another potential Wildcat, top-ranked class of 2024 shooting guard Tre Johnson, who was on an official visit to UK over the weekend.

Kentucky is still without a commitment in the class of 2024, and Johnson is not expected to commit in the near future.

Time will tell how much of an impact Saturday night’s experience will have on his post-high school playing choice.
