Gayle King has revealed that Oprah Winfrey told her that her upcoming special with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is the “best interview she’s ever done”.

The CBS This Morning host shared her close friend’s self-praise over the interview, which will air on 7 March, during Friday’s episode, after King and her co-hosts first highlighted portions of Harry’s appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

The Duke of Sussex made a surprise appearance on The Late Late Show on Thursday, where he opened up about the early stages of his and the Duchess of Sussex’s relationship, as well as the couple’s ultimate decision to step away from their roles as senior members of the royal family.

After praising the segment, which King said had “plenty of laughs” as well as more serious moments, the CBS anchor took the opportunity to redirect attention to Winfrey’s upcoming interview with the couple.

“We want to remind you that Harry and Meghan are talking to Oprah, it’s their first major broadcast interview since giving up their senior royal duties,” King said. “And I’ve heard from reliable sources, this is Oprah talking, that it’s the best interview she’s ever done.

“So I’m curious. I think that’s saying something.”

King’s promotion of the upcoming two-hour interview between her longtime friend and the duke and duchess, which will also air on CBS, comes a week after she revealed that “nothing is off-limits” during the conversation.

“I know she’s been working on the questions all weekend long,” the morning show host said of Winfrey’s preparation. “I’m told that nothing is off-limits, nothing is off-limits. She can ask anything she wants.

“A lot of people wanted this interview. I’m so glad that we got it. I’m very curious.”

According to CBS, the interview will see the duchess speak with Winfrey about “everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure,” with the duke later joining to discuss the couple’s move to California and their “dreams for their expanding family”.

Oprah With Meghan And Harry: A CBS Primetime Special, will be broadcast on CBS on 7 March.
