Gamecocks offer hometown tight end from state championship program

South Carolina has shown interest in Hammond’s Mike Tyler for a while. On Thursday, the Gamecocks offered the Class of 2025 tight end, he reported via social media.

South Carolina tight end coach Jody Wright is handling Tyler’s recruitment and informed him of the offer. Tyler attended Saturday’s USC-Clemson game and has been to the school on multiple occasions.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound junior has offers from Cincinnati, Duke, North Carolina State, West Virginia, East Carolina and Liberty. He also visited Georgia Tech earlier this month.

Tyler has been a two-year starter for the Skyhawks, who won their seventh straight S.C. Independent School Association championship earlier this month. In the title game, he caught the game-winning 33-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to help Hammond to a 28-21 win over Laurence Manning.

For the season, Tyler had 33 catches for 548 yards and seven touchdowns.
