Fresno County man accused of stabbing mother and killing boyfriend, deputies say

A Fresno County man is accused of trying to kill his mom and of stabbing the woman’s boyfriend to death in a weekend incident in Auberry.

Bretton Begaye, who lived on the Big Sandy Rancheria with the two people stabbed Friday, was booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of murder and attempted murder. His bail was set at $1.5 million.

More details emerged Saturday about the incident, reported about 5 p.m. Friday in the 35000 block of Auberry Mission Road.

Deputies found a 52-year-old woman suffering from severe stab wounds at the parking lot of Mono Wind Casino.

It was eventually learned that the woman was stabbed at a nearby home, which is where deputies made contact with Begaye. The 29-year-old Begaye is the woman’s son, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies entered the home and found a man dead, also from apparent stab wounds.

Owen Hancock, 50, was said to be the longtime boyfriend of the woman found in the parking lot.

Deputies turned Begaye over to homicide detectives.

A motive in the stabbings remained unknown Saturday.

The woman was taken by helicopter to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center, where she was in critical but stable condition.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Detective Frank Perez at 559-600-8207 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867 or valleychrimestoppers.org. You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
