Fresh tacos, aquas frescas and more are coming to Birkdale Village in Lake Norman

Bartaco, a restaurant focused on upscale street food and specialty cocktails, is opening its third North Carolina location in Lake Norman at Birkdale Village.

The 3,400-square-foot, full-service restaurant will be situated adjacent to the Grove at the shopping center and is expected to open this year, Britni Johnson of North American Properties said.

The restaurant’s other locations in North Carolina are in Chapel Hill and Raleigh. The news was first reported by Charlotte Business Journal.

The food: The menu is separated into tacos, “not tacos” and rice bowls.

Taco choices: include baja fish, seared chorizo, spiced chicken verde and mushroom. One very important thing to note here: You can’t get individual tacos delivered. (Corn tortillas and Bibb lettuce shells don’t travel well.) You can, however, order a taco pack with four to eight tacos with your choice of protein or mushrooms and 4” corn tortillas or Bibb lettuce shells with assembly and reheating required.

Bartaco is opening at 16916 Birkdale Commons Pkwy., in Huntersville’s Birkdale Village.

Rice bowl options: You choose among spiced chicken verde, chorizo, mushroom and cauliflower.

What’s considered “not tacos”?: Sides such as guacamole, chips and salsa are sold separately.

The drinks: Expect a Latin flair in the drink menu, as well. You’ll find bottled Mexican Coke, along with aguas frescas, freshly squeezed lemonade and limeade.
