Free KFC chicken bucket refills? Fast-food giant puts end to infamous TikTok rumor

A TikTok of a man getting a free refill of chicken at KFC is too good to be true, the company said in response to the viral video.

Allen Ferrell, who has more than 3.5 million followers on TikTok, made a video of himself testing out the rumor that KFC would refill a bucket of chicken for a customer if they asked.

Ferrell ordered an 8-piece bucket of chicken, ate it and then returned to the counter and asked the same worker if he could get a refill.

“Oh, you’re talking about that one thing?” the worker said, and Ferrell posted a picture of what appeared to be a policy on the screen.

The text read: “It only applies during the 60 minutes after the purchase. The refill must be requested after waiting in the regular line at the restaurant’s counter. You must show your receipt to request the refill. Once a customer has left the restaurant the refill is no longer valid.”

The worker refills the bucket for Ferrell and hands it over with an added, “enjoy your second meal.”

“Is this real? I need a KFC employee to verify,” one person said in the comments.

Despite the video, which was viewed more than 23 million times as of March 23, KFC put the rumor to rest: its restaurants don’t refill chicken buckets for free.

“The bad news: the free bucket refill rumor is a lie,” KFC tweeted on March 15.

The popular video got some viewer’s hopes up — and made others wary before they tested it out.

“Why do I have the feeling I’ll only get laughed at if I try this where I’m at,” one person said.

“I will never believe this til I see it done in person,” another said.
