Frank Martin lands commitment from Baltimore guard who adds ‘offensive firepower’

As the South Carolina men’s basketball team gains steam in SEC play with back-to-back wins, the USC coaching staff continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail.

On Friday, the Gamecocks landed a 2022 commitment from 6-foot-3 point guard Bryce Lindsay out of St. Frances in Baltimore, Maryland. Lindsay announced the decision on Instagram Live with On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton, choosing the Gamecocks over the likes of Oklahoma State and Pittsburgh.

A three-star recruit in 247Sports Composite ratings, Lindsay joins a 2022 class that already includes lengthy, big-bodied guards Daniel Hankins-Sanford out of Charlotte and in-state product Zachary Davis from Denmark.

Lindsay is known most for his shooting ability, recently hitting a buzzer-beating 3-pointer and scoring 23 points in a win over the No. 2 team in the state. He and St. Frances played in the Chick-fil-A Classic at River Bluff last month and he hit six 3-pointers against Denver Prep. South Carolina coaches were there to watch Lindsay play.

“Bryce has the will to win,” St. Frances head coach Nick Myles told The State. “He’s one of the best shooting point guards in the country. He can really shoot the ball with range, definitely a floor spacer. He’s becoming a better defender, but I think he’ll add offensive firepower from Day 1.”

Though shooting is his strength, Myles said he believes Lindsay has the IQ and vision to stick at point guard at the next level. He’s had games this year where he’s scored 10 3-pointers, but he’s also tallied eight assists in a game and knows how to distribute.

The next step for Lindsay, Myles said, is for him to continue to grow as a leader, something it appears he’ll have the chance to do at South Carolina.

“He’s a great kid from a great family who was raised the right way,” Myles said. “He’s a mild-mannered, quiet kid that’s becoming more vocal every day. I think that’s the next step, just becoming more vocal.”
