Four-star wide receiver Shamar Porter chooses Kentucky over Georgia, Tennessee

Shamar Porter, considered one of the top wide-receiver prospects in the class of 2023, announced a commitment to the University of Kentucky football program on Friday afternoon.

Porter, whom 247Sports and On3 Sports tab as a four-star recruit, plays for Ensworth School, a private institution in Nashville. Rivals, which rates him as a three-star prospect, tabbed him as a Tennessee lean. He also has reported offers from Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Penn State, among others.

He announced his commitment via a 30-second video posted to his social-media accounts.

UK offered him during an unofficial visit on Nov. 19, which would have coincided with the Wildcats’ 56-16 home victory over New Mexico State.

According to background information supplied by 247Sports, Porter has run a 10.91 in the 100-meter dash. He’s listed at 6-foot-3 and 192 pounds.

Porter is the third player to commit to UK as part of the 2023 signing class and the first from outside the state’s borders. He joined Frederick Douglass athlete Ty Bryant, who’s likely to play defensive back at the next level, and Kaden Moorman, a standout running back for Franklin County.

In-state star Kaden Moorman chooses Kentucky. ‘He’s such a special talent.’
