Four-star Canadian center Michael Nwoko commits to University of Miami basketball team

The University of Miami men’s basketball team got big news Thursday afternoon.

Four-star prospect Michael Nwoko, a 6-10 and 225-pound Canadian center from Prolific Prep in Napa, California chose UM over UCLA, Georgia Tech, Providence and Vanderbilt. He announced his decision on 247Sports YouTube channel.

He is rated the No. 13 center in the class by 247Sports recruiting site and No. 107 prospect overall. He visited Miami on Sept. 23

He is a good student with a 3.85 GPA and played for Team Canada’s U18 team at the FIBA Americas championship in June. He averaged 12 points and eight rebounds in that tournament and put up 20 points and seven rebounds in the third-place game against Argentina.

The Hurricanes finished 26-11 and reached the Elite Eight last season for the first time in school history before losing to eventual champion Kansas.

The 2022-23 season tips off on Oct. 30 with an exhibition game against Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the regular season begins Nov. 7 against Lafayette. Here is the full schedule.
