New discussions between the United States and Mexico on strengthening investment security screening and potentially integrating their cross-border payments systems are not focused on countering threats from China, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Thursday. Yellen, who was speaking at a press conference with Mexican Finance Minister Rogelio Ramirez de la O, also said it was important to step up security screening of investments due to the increasing integration of the two neighboring economies.
The Army-Navy game never does. In an era of booster collectives and transfer portals, the nation's two oldest service academies will line up their triple-option offenses at the home of the New England Patriots on Saturday for a day full of pageantry, tradition and a deeply rooted respect that comes with one of college football's fiercest rivalries. It will be the 124th meeting between the two teams, with Army (5-6) hoping to follow its upset of then-No. 17 Air Force last month and claim the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy.
Treasury bond yields have been steadily declining as many investors believe the Federal Reserve is done with interest rate hikes and may begin cutting rates as early as June of 2024. With recent commentary from the Bank Of Japan and November jobs data due out on Friday, predictions for the Fed's next move have been called into question. RiverFront Global Fixed Income CIO Kevin Nicholson joins Yahoo Finance to discuss the current status of the market. "I think you'll probably see the bond market go up by 10-15 basis points. I think that you're going to really see a sell-off abruptly and not to the same degree as the momentum that we got to the downside," Nicholson says. "But, I think that you're going to cause a lot of investors to re-think their investment thesis that the Fed is actually going to cut rates instead of just leaving them higher for longer." NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — Despite some recent financial setbacks, U.S. offshore windpower has hit a milestone. An 800-foot tall turbine is now sending electricity onto the grid from a commercial-scale offshore wind farm on pace to be the country's first. The moment is years in the making and at the same time a modest advance in what experts say needs to be a major buildout of this type of clean electricity to address climate change. Trigon Terminals says it is commencing legal action to ensure it is able to develop its planned liquid petroleum gas (LPG) export terminal. After the company announced its plans in early November to redevelop its coal terminal to enable the export of LPG, its landlords, the Prince Rupert Port Authority, denied its ability to do so. The United States has not given Israel a firm deadline to end major combat operations against Hamas in Gaza, and if the war ended now, the Islamist group would continue to pose a threat, White House national security aide John Finer said on Thursday. Israel has two objectives in Gaza, Finer said, ensuring Hamas can no longer govern the densely-populated enclave and it can no longer pose a threat to Israel following the deadly Oct. 7 attack during which its militants killed 1,200 people and abducted 240 others.
